Week 9- Space + Art

This week as we were introduced to the last topic of the quarter, and I really felt a connection to the various interactions that that space and art have. Professor Vesna explains that the connection between art and space is shown to our generation not only by scientists but also through various forms of popular culture. I believe the intrigue into space comes from the unknown.  Space is so big and there is so much that we have yet to discover, so of course it is only natural to wonder what is up there.

In Professors Vensa’s lecture she explains that different artists have found inspirations to create certain television shows on the unknown.  The creation of shows like Star Trek or The Jetsons is just two examples where artists have created other universes based purely on the imagination. Watching these two shows, may not tell you a lot about the space that you know but it may tell us what is t be predicted for the further discoveries of space, this is the coolest connection between space and art I believe.

I think this was by far the best topic to finish off the class with because it shows how all the technologies that come together to introduce a fairly unknowledgeable topic.  Along with this however it shows how much we do not know about the universe and the future that we could potentially be looking at. Just like Professor Vesna said “ We are using nanotechnology in space and biotechnology and mathematics and robots. So it is a place where it all comes together, (Space intro Video) and this is why I also believe this was the most important topic to finish with.

  1. I agree with you that this week's lecture is by far the most interesting topic. Not only does it show how all the technologies come together but also how truly art and science are meant to be together. I meant we just spent the last 9 weeks exploring the intersection between art and science but I feel that was barely the beginning. Just like space itself, the true intersection is still yet to be known. It could be more than we would ever imagine.

  2. Bronte,

I completely agree with you in regards to the massive influence that has been seen between the worlds of pop culture and space. This has included one of my favorite movie series of all time being Star Wars. Something else that I really enjoyed about your position was that I also found the mystery and the unknown of space fascinating. I think this is a great post overall and I also believe that this weeks topic was a great way to end the quarter.
